Much to my surprise we found ourselves falling in Love with Capri Island during our May 2023 Italy trip. After our day along the Amalfi Coast, I was thinking that Capri was going to be an extension of Amalfi and Positano but it was not. Capri moved a little bit slower and had more of a relaxed feel for us. There were plenty of people but it didn’t feel as crowded, the stores and shops didn’t seem as touristy, and it was so beautiful. We spent 2 nights on Capri and would have loved to stay longer. It rained quite a bit of the time but regardless, we continued falling in love with the Island Capri.

Day 1
We left Sorrento mid morning and once again found ourselves on a ferry. This time it was quick and we only stopped at our destination, the Isle of Capri. Pulling up to the Isle of Capri was exciting, little did we know how much we would love it here.

The Way Up
We were staying at the Luna Hotel which was just on the other side of the main town of Capri and also on the opposite side of the Island from the port where we landed. Our luggage was picked up at the port by the hotel staff and would be waiting for us when we arrived. To reach the hotel we could either take a taxi, ride a bus, or walk. We decided to walk. It was uphill and would take about an hour but it was a nice day and since we had been eating a lot of wonderful food on this trip, the exercise wouldn’t hurt us.

The walk was actually quite nice. It wasn’t marked so we just followed the road up. After a bit we noticed a walkway and some steps to the side of the road. We decided to follow those up and see where we ended up. Again, it was a nice walk. Before we knew it, we were in the town of Capri.

Lunch Time
After that trek up, we were hungry. We saw a place that looked good and had a sizable crowd. We found a table along the road so were able to enjoy some people watching right off the main square. Capri was already casting her spell on us. Not surprisingly, we ordered pizza and a Capri Salad. We also enjoyed a cup of coffee. If I haven’t mentioned it before, coffee is wonderful in Italy and we had several cups a day at various places. All were fantastic.

Luna Hotel
After lunch we took our time finishing our walk to our hotel. I loved the walkway to the hotel and knew we were in for a treat. Luna Hotel was amazing in every way. It has almost a retro vibe with vibrant colors and beautiful tiles. When we reached our room, there was no doubt, we had fallen in love with Capri Island. The room was comfortable, but the highlight was the balcony and the view. I could look at that view all day! Words cannot describe how overwhelmed with gratitude I was to be here enjoying this view.

Even though I did not want to leave the balcony, it was the warmest day of our trip so we decided to go enjoy the hotel’s pool for awhile. What a great way to relax.

Hike to the Arco Naturale
One of the places we knew we wanted to see was the Arco Naturale or Natural Arch. Of course we always look for a place to hike wherever we are and this was first on our list. The arch is on the east side of the island and along the coast. It was once a sea grotto but collapsed centuries ago. Right up the walkway from the hotel is a granita stand. We decided to enjoy this tasty treat on our walk. We trekked up back through town and followed the trail signs to the arch. It was nice that at this time, late afternoon, the town was not at all busy as day trippers had departed. It was a nice hike on a good path. The arch was beautiful and definitely worth the effort to see it. Hiking back up wasn’t as fun but we made it.

Aperitivo andDinner at Luna Hotel
After our hike, we went back to the hotel to prepare for dinner. But first, we went to the rooftop bar to enjoy Aperitivo. Aperitivo in Italy is kind of like a cocktail hour before dinner. It is very popular everywhere we visitied in Italy but this was the first we had time to relax and partake in it. The views were fantastic.

Dinner at Luna Hotel did not disappoint. The food was wonderful and the service impeccable.

Day 2
Rain, Rain, Go Away!
Our second day brought rain, pretty much all day. We had a boat tour of the island which was cancelled and we were not able to take the chairlift which were both disappointing. Regardless, we still had a fun packed day, we were still in Italy and we continued to love Capri.

The breakfast buffet at the hotel was great and after having our fill of food and coffee, grabbling our umbrellas, we walked into town to catch the bus to Anacapri. First though, we stopped for gelato!

Visiting Anacapri
The bus ride to Anacapri was short and uneventful. Once off the bus we wandered the shops and enjoyed the pretty tiled benches. Due to the rain, I didn’t get many pictures.

We did visit San Michel Arcangela Church and marveled at the the majolica mosaic floor. Built in 1719, this church is really unique.

Lunch Time
We took the bus back to Capri did a bit of shopping and then of course, we were ready to eat again. We ate at Ristorante Donna Rachele. Along with our daily pizza, we had an appetizer. The ambiance of this restaurant was very festive.

Hiking to the Sea
The weather was not improving any so we decided to go for a hike. I needed a bit of persuading but all in all it was fun. I would love to give information on where we were hiking but all I know is we were on the south east side of the island of Capri, south of the Natural Arch and East of our hotel. We just followed trails, enjoyed the scenery and ended up at La Fontelina which appeared to be a closed beach club. The views were amazing and we had a great time

Best Dinner of our Trip
After our hike we cleaned up and went looking for a place for dinner. We really did love walking through the streets of Capri as the Island was not very busy and there was a peaceful laid back vibe in the air. We found a quaint little restaurant just off of the main square and decided to give it a try. Isidoro was a great last night spot. The ambiance, food, and staff were all amazing. It was our favorite place to eat in Italy. It is one ore reason we love the Island of Carpi!

Day 3
After breakfast on our last day we did a bit of shopping and bought the most beautiful ceramic bowls. Then we sent our luggage ahead of us and walked back down to the port. After all we ate in Capri we decided walking was a good idea. We caught the ferry for Naples and flew out the next morning. Unfortunately, if you notice the blue and white bag in my hands, those were my bowls from Capri, somehow we left them in Naples. Very sad, but still a wonderful trip.

Conclusion
Just writing this post I am falling in love all over again with the Island of Capri. In spite of the rain and our boat trip being cancelled, it was still a remarkable and amazing two days.

Such a beautiful place!
Yes it is!!
Traveling means adapting, and it looks like you made the best of everything. Your stay on the Isle of Capri sounds absolutely amazing, and so does the food! Thank you for sharing your wonderful trip and gorgeous photos!
We are usually pretty good at adapting! Try to look for the positive but sometimes it is hard!
I left you another comment, but for some reason it didn’t post. Your trip looks fantastic despite the rain and lost bowls. You always describe the places you visit so beautifully, and of course, your photos are always postcard worthy. Now, for some reason I’m craving pasta!
Thank you. I have been slow at approving the messages. We are currently on layover at JFK waiting to fly to Greece!
Have so much fun in Greece! Safe travels.
Thank you!
Great post, Lori! I went to Capri many years ago with my parents. They made all the arrangements and they aren’t big on hiking, so I didn’t know about the Arch. Oh well. I did love the island. We saw the Blue Grotto, which was a tourist trap but still lovely. What was the name of your “quaint little restaurant”? Was it “Da Gemma”?
It was Isodoro. We would have loved to see the grotto but the rain kept us from it. Maybe someday!! Thanks for reading!
I figured Capri was just as crowded as the rest of the Amalfi Coast, but it’s great you found it more relaxing and more enjoyable! That mosaic floor inside the San Michel Arcangela Church is stunning, and I’m glad it was a good time!
We absolutely loved Capri and were pleasantly surprised how much we loved it!
This makes me want to book a flight to Italy right now! That view from your room is incredible and the food looks absolutely delicious 🙂
It was truly a great time. I would love to return someday!
You go to so many beautiful places and I bet even in the rain, it’s still beautiful. Thanks for the tour!
We do even enjoy ourselves when it rains!
