This 2 Week Greece Itinerary packed in a lot of sites and adventures as we explored Delphi, Meteora, Corfu, Santorini and Athens. This trip was from 2022 and being our fourth time traveling to Greece we were becoming more specific in what we wanted to see and do. In addition, planning a trip to Greece takes a lot of research and time and being prepared makes the trip go more smoothly.
Why We Chose These Areas
We chose Delphi, Meteora, Corfu, Santorini and Athens as the first three had specific sites we wanted to see and the last two we wanted to return to and see more. Having been to Santorini and Athens we knew we wanted to return. As for Meteora and Delphi, we have had them on our bucket list for quite awhile and decided to fit them in this year. Corfu has some beautiful beaches that we really wanted to see.
Delphi
Ancient Delphi had been on our list for sometime. We do enjoy the ancient history and this beautiful site gracefully spreads up a mountainside. Not only do you get to enjoy the ruins, but you also get to enjoy some of the lovely scenery from this part of the Greece mainland.
Meteora
Where do I begin with Meteora? Since the first time I saw a photo of these amazing monasteries built a top these natural rocks, I just knew I had to go. In 2022 that wish came true. We were amazed to say the least.
Corfu
We specifically picked Corfu as we had heard the NW corner has some of the most beautiful beaches. We also wanted to see the contrast between the Cyclades Islands and the Ionian Islands. Before this trip we had only visited the Cyclades and with Corfu being in the Ionians it would be something different for us. In comparison, both the Cyclades and Ionian Islands are spectacular in their own way.
Santorini
Once again we returned to Santorini as there is so much to do and see there. In addition, the view from the caldera never gets old. For those who tell you to skip Santorini because it is so touristy and busy, they are wrong. True, Santorini is busy in Fira and Oia, but if you go beyond these areas you will be in for a wonderful treat. This was our fourth time here and we still hadn’t seen it all.
Athens
For us, Athens never gets old so we chose to visit here again. This is another place where, although we have been here repeatedly, we do not tire of it and always find something new to see. We also enjoy revisiting some of our favorite spots. There is an excitement within the vibe of Athens that we fell in love with.
2 Week Greece Itinerary-Delphi, Meteora, Corfu, Santorini, Athens
I have added links throughout this itinerary of posts from my blogs of the individual places. These post give more information and insight to the places listed. Recommendations for any hotels, restaurants, tours or sites are based from us actually being at these places. I only recommend places we have personally enjoyed that have good service. I hope you find this itinerary for Delphi, Meteora, Corfu, Santorini and Athens interesting and also helpful.
Fly Day
We flew Delta Airlines from Des Moines, Iowa. Usually we fly through Atlanta as it is only one stop but this trip we were not able to find a flight that worked so we flew through Atlanta and then New York JFK which took 18 hours and 10 minutes. It was a great flight and we really do love flying Delta.
Day One-Delphi
After a long night of flying we arrived early, rented a car, and drove a little over two hours to the mountain town of Arachova. Arahova is known as a winter destination but is also a great village any time of year.
- Land at Athens International Airport.
- Rent car at airport.
- Drive towards Arachova where we were also staying.
- Stop for coffee in Kastro. This was the best Greek Coffee I had ever had and we enjoyed talking with the owner here.
- Check in to lodging at Arachova. The Almond House Suites. This was a wonderful place to stay.
- Short drive to Delphi to visit the Ancient Ruins and consult the Oracle.
- Self tour of the Delphi ruins. Unfortunately, we arrived too late in the day therefore, we could not visit the museum.
- Dinner at To Tsoukali. This was an amazing dinner. A great way to start our trip. You can read more about this fantastic dinner here.
- Wander through Archova at night.
Day Two-Arachova to Meteora
Arachova to Meteora is a bit over a three hour drive but very lovely through the mountains.
- Breakfast at hotel. This was very lovely in addition there was a great view.
- A bit of shopping and also exploring in Arachova.
- Drive to Eptalofos and see the waterfall.
- Snacks in the Village.
- Drive to Kalabaka and check in at Divani Meteora Hotel.
- Drive up to Meteora and hike to Ypapanti Monastery. This hike was a lot of fun and we only saw a couple of other people on the trail. It was an easy hike although we got a bit mixed up coming back therefore it became an adventure! All in all it worked out ok!
- Watch the sunset over Meteora. This was very cool.
- Dinner at Valia Calda. This was a nice meal and we enjoyed it but were told we ordered too much.
Day Three-Meteora
We continued to enjoy Meteora for a second day. There is so much to do and also see here.
- Breakfast at hotel.
- E-bike tour of Meteora. This was one of the highlights of our trip and I highly recommend it. We rode past all five of the main monasteries and also toured two. It was very beautiful and our e-bike guide was a wealth of information. I highly advise this tour!
- Lunch at Boufidis Greek Tavern as recommended to us. This was very good. We sat outside and just chilled!
- Drove to the Grand Meteora Monastery.
- Tour Grand Meteora Monastery. As a matter of fact, this was my favorite one.
- Swam and relaxed at hotel and also went to dinner. I can’t remember where we ate but I have a photo of the menu!
- Shopped in Kalabaka and bought plenty of honey.
Day Four-Drive and Ferry to Corfu, Island
Another day of early morning driving to get to the ferry crossing for Corfu. It took us a little over two hours but unfortunately most of it was in the dark. I think this would have been a lovely drive in the day light.
- We woke up very early to drive the two and a quarter hours to the Igoumenitsa Port.
- Coffee at the Port.
- Ferry to Corfu. This was a smaller ferry although it was actually a lot of fun. We drove our car on the ferry with no problems. It is amazing to see how quickly a ferry in Greece loads and unloads. We sat outside the entire time and my excitement mounted as Corfu came closer in sight.
- Drive to Giali Beach to hike down the cliff and swim. This hike was amazing if you enjoy rope assist, ladders, and also some scrambling. It is one of my favorite all time hikes!
- Drive to hotel Delfino Blu in Agios Stefanos, NW. This hotel was perfect and right on the beach. I can’t begin to praise the wonderful staff here. Truly the ultimate place for us to base while in Corfu.
- Dinner at Delfino Blu Dining room. We really enjoyed all of our meals here. The sunset just added to the beautiful ambiance.
Day Five-Corfu Beaches
This is the main reason we chose Corfu, the spectacular beaches! All in all they did not disappoint.
- Breakfast at Delfino Blu. This Buffett was quite the feast and everything was so fresh and appetizing.
- Logas Beach. We enjoyed walking down to this white cliff beach. A short easy walk but also lots of steps. It was early morning and there were few people here.
- Cape Drastis is one of the iconic Corfu beaches. We enjoyed the views from above and also walking down to the sea. There were quite a few people here although we were still able to find a spot to park that wasn’t too far away.
- Canal D Armour. This iconic beach was very crowded and is probably the most popular beach in the NW area. We enjoyed walking along the rocks and the views. Although there were a lot of people swimming here, we chose not to as it was just too busy for us.
- We took a break from the beaches and drove to the Byzatine Castle of Angelokastro.
- Climb up to the top of the Byzantine Castle of Angelokastro. This was an amazing castle ruins with a phenomenal view. Lots of steps to the top though.
- Drive back to hotel and relax at the beach. Agios Stefanos Beach, where the hotel is located, is a very nice sandy beach and also makes for a good swim.
- Dinner at the hotel was once again delicious.
Day Six-Old Town Corfu, Porto Timoni
Old Town Corfu has so much to see. The drive from our hotel to old town took an hour. It is not a long drive but a slow drive as it winds through the mountains with lots of curves and also narrow roads. Unfortunately, we found out the New Castle was closed on Tuesdays so did not get to visit this.
- Breakfast at Delfino Blu.
- Drive to Old Town Corfu. This is quite a narrow and winding road but also a beautiful drive.
- Wander the streets of Old Town Corfu. We enjoyed wandering through the old maze like streets.
- Shopping in Old Town Corfu. Shopping in Corfu was fun and we also met a lot of friendly merchants. We bought a hat, belt, honey, olive oil, and a wooden bowl.
- Self tour of the Old Fortress. There are a lot of steps at the Old Fortress but the work out is worth it. The views are amazing from the top!
- Drive to Afionas Village. This small village was where we parked to hike to Porto Timoni View Point. A parking lot was easy to find here and they charged a minimal amount in addition, access was easy.
- Hike to Porto Timoni View Point. We had been looking forward to this hike as it is another one of the iconic views of Corfu. The hike was not difficult and very few people were on the dirt trail.
- Dinner back at hotel. We once again enjoyed dinner at Delphino Blu. It is rare for us to eat so many dinners at our hotel but the food was good and it was so convenient. We were pretty worn out by the end of these days and dinner and bed was about all we could muster by the end of the day.
Day Seven-NW Corfu by Sea
Corfu by sea is just as lovely as by land. It was fun to now see the beaches we visited on land from the sea.
- Breakfast at Delfino Blu.
- Boat Rental was right on the beach, just a short walk from the hotel. We had a brief tutorial on operating the boat and then we were off.
- Enjoy NW Corfu sea. This was absolutely phenomenal. Not a care in the world as we enjoyed the sea, swam to various beaches, and just relaxed.
- Massage at Delfino Blu. After all of this activity, a massage was just what I needed.
- Beach time on Agios Stefanos Beach.
- Dinner at Delfino Blu once again.
Day Eight-Corfu Town
We once again returned to Corfu town as there is so much to see! In addition, the New Fortress was not open when we first were in town so we mostly returned to see this.
- Breakfast Delfino Blu.
- Drive to Corfu Town. Once again, although very curvy and also narrow, we enjoyed this pretty drive.
- Visit New Fortress. This was worth coming back for and the views were also great.
- More shopping. I saw a dress last time we were in town and decided to come back and buy it, in addition we found a few goodies to take home.
- Visit Patounis Soap Factory. This Soap Factory is family owned for many generations and is definitely a great place to check out. I bought several bars of soap and enjoyed them when I returned home.
- Drive back to hotel. We were starting to get used to the curves and ups and downs of the Corful countryside!
- Beach Time again at Agios Stefanos.
- Dinner at Zorba’s. We decided to try someplace else for dinner and this spot was delicious. The dance show during dinner was fun to watch as well.
Day Nine-Santorini
It was so exciting to be back in Santorini! Santorini is more than a place, it’s a feeling!
- Drive to Corfu Airport and return the rental car. It was awesome that we could rent the car at the Athens airport and return it to the Corfu airport.
- Fly to Santorini on Aegean Airlines. We like to fly Aegean Airlines when in Greece and have had no problems with the airline.
- Transfer to Astra Suites Hotel from the airport.
- Check in to Astra Suites in Imerovigli. As a matter of fact, we stay here each time we are in Santorini. If you would like to book a room you can click here.
- Lunch at Let’s Eat. We have found this to be our favorite spot for Gyros and Fries in Santorini.
- Ice Cream at Confetti Dessert Boutique. This is conveniently located close to Let’s Eat and in addition it is perfect after eating a gyro!
- Off the Beaten Path tour through Vacation Into Premium with George. This was amazing.
- Monolithos Beach. We absolutely loved these formations!
- Heart of Santorini. Although beautiful, unfortunately erosion is changing the shape of this heart.
- Sunset. George found a perfect spot for sunset, so tranquil and in addition, we were the only ones here
- Dinner at Aktaion We walked to Fira for dinner. Attaion was amazing and has been here for over 100 years! We did not have reservations although I would suggest it as we had to wait a bit for a table.
Day Ten-Santorini
Renting a dune buggy is our absolute favorite thing to do when in Santorini. This was our third year renting one and it is amazing all of the wonderful places we have found over the years that are not busy and also not tourist spots in Santorini.
- Breakfast at Astra Suites. Not only is the food good, but the view is also amazing. We woke up to fog filling the caldera and it cleared while we ate our breakfast on our balcony.
- Rent a Dune Buggy for the Day. We did this through our hotel so unfortunately I do not know the company.
- North East Coast Beaches were almost deserted which we absolutely loved.
- Snack at Grigoris Bakery
- Walk through Megalochori. This is definitely a gem!
- Pool time at the hotel.
- Dinner Five Senses at hotel. The ambiance is awesome with beautiful views.
Day Eleven-Santorini
Another favorite in Santorini for us is to hike to Oia and enjoy the pretty views.
- Breakfast Astra Suites
- Hike to Oia. Our hike started with fog over the caldera which lifted as we hiked on. Very beautiful to see the caldera filled with the fog.
- Snack in Oia.
- Shopping in Oia. We do enjoy a bit of shopping in Oia. We have been able to find some unique pieces to take home.
- Transfer back to hotel. We had enough of walking so took a taxi back. Taxi’s are easy to find and will quote you the price before you get in.
- Dinner at Mama Lena’s. This was a new spot for us this year and became our favorite go to in 2023.
- Firework show over the Caldera. The Ifestia festival was being held and fireworks are set off from the volcano. Really beautiful. Some of the restaurants had live music and we were up late sitting on the balcony enjoying the vibe.
Day Twelve-Santorini to Athens
Our time at Santorini ended to soon and after an early morning walk and breakfast we were off to Athens.
- Hike Rock of Skaros. We have done this before and it never gets old. This year instead of hiking to the top, we hiked to the other side to see the church overlooking the sea.
- Breakfast Astra Suites
- Transfer to airport
- Fly to Athens on Aegean Airlines.
- Transfer to Hotel.
- Check in at Electra Palace in the Plaka area of Athens. We have ben staying at Electra Palace each time we are in Athens since 2018. You can book a by clicking here. I do highly recommend staying here as it is close to everything.
- Lunch at Geros Too Moria on the Plaka steps.
- Wander through Athens. We truly enjoy just walking around the streets when in Athens.
- Sunset at the Hotel Pool. One of the many reasons we love this hotel.
- Dinner El Greco. More like a snack but a nice spot to eat at.
- Gelato at DaVinci’s. This is our favorite gelato spot and we have been here many times.
- Stroll Athen’s at night. Wandering around Athens at night is just as lovely as during the day.
Day Thirteen-Athens
We always find something new to explore in Athens.
- Breakfast at Electra Palace. Breakfast here is very good and you can eat outside if you choose with a view of the Acropolis.
- Visit the National Garden. This is a lovely space in Athens and is quite large. I look forward to returning here.
- Self-Tour Panathinaiko Stadium. This was really an amazing place and few people were here. A bit of a walk but worth it.
- Returned to enjoy the hotels gardens and pool.
- Stroll Tripoden Street which is the oldest street in Athens and in Europe. In addition, the street has kept its name for 25 centuries. We grabbed some gelato here but I can’t remember the name of the place.
- Self-Tour Acropolis. This was our second time to the Acropolis and we loved it even more.
- Dinner at Stou Mama. We really enjoyed dinner here. We found it by accident while looking for another place and decided we would try it out. Really glad we did!
- Enjoyed some night time shopping. Lots of music and dancing in the square.
Day Fourteen-Athens to Home
After a wonderful two weeks in Greece enjoying Delphi, Meteora, Corfu, Santorini and Athens, we flew back home once again through Delta Airlines. We flew from Athens to Des Moines by connecting in Atlanta which took 17 hours and 25 minutes total.
- Breakfast at Electra Palace.
- One last roam through the Plaka area before leaving.
- Transfer to Airport
- Fly Back Home
Conclusion
As you can tell, we absolutely love Greece. Although there was some driving, Delphi, Meteora, Corfu, Santorini, and Athens make for a great vacation as through these various places you get to see many aspects of Greece and its culture. We loved this trip as it combined hiking, site seeing, ancient history and great food in one trip.
