Lunch in Eptalofos, Greece is worth a mention as there is a waterfall and we enjoyed our short time spent here. During our September 2022 trip to Greece we first visited Ancient Delphi and after spending the night traveled to Meteora. Our host at Almondhouse in Arachova, where we stayed, recommend we take an alternate route to Meteora instead of the usual route GPS advised. He told us about the town of Eptalofos that has a lovely town center, waterfall, good places to eat, and nice views. He was right on all accounts!
Location
The Views
The drive to Eptalofos was lovely and the views were beautiful as we drove in the mountains of mainland Greece.

The Waterfall
Although the town is a small Greek village, we seemed to drive around every street in Eptalofos before finding the waterfall. We must have made it much harder than it needed to be as it was actually right off of the main road. We parked along the side of the road and walked the short distance. Certainly had we not known to look for it we would not have found it as I don’t remember seeing a sign for it. Being that it was September we were glad to see the falls had not decreased to a trickle.

Nikos Taverna
It was early afternoon and we decided to stop for coffee and a snack at the town square. We found a nice place in the shade and although we were the only ones there we were welcomed and our coffee, bread and tzatziki and saganaki. It was good. A very relaxing place and a place to just slow down and enjoy the surroundings. Even though we had some what of a language barrier we enjoyed chatting with our server. Somehow between my rudimentary Greek and his broken English we seemed to understand each other!

While we ate, some women were brought fresh greens and they sat at a table sorting them while chatting. We also enjoyed the sound of children playing in the square, giggling and running around. Doesn’t get much more authentic than this!

Water From a Tree?
In the square there is a tree that has water flowing from it. Not only does water flow from it, the staff at the restaurant get there water from here. We watched as our server went to the tree, filled a pitcher of water, and brought it to our table! If I understood correctly, there was a water pipe here and the tree slowly grew around it! Pretty cool.

On the Road Again
Back on the road we had about a 3 hour drive to Meteora. Not everything we do in Greece is fun and exciting. Steve drives as I don’t like to drive and he really doesn’t like my driving. This works well for both of us. Sitting still is not a virtue I have so I keep busy chit chatting, telling awesome stories to Steve and crocheting a baby blanket. Seems I find myself more amusing than he finds me. Regardless, we seem to pass the time

I don’t know why these signs make me laugh each time I see them. You certainly cannot misread them.

Conclusion
Eptalofos is a lovely village if you want to see a less touristy part of Greece and the waterfall is nice also.

Ancient Delphi, Greece Sept 2022
Gorgeous all around! Never heard of Eptalofos, but that waterfall certainly captured my attention, as well as the water pipe inside the tree! Lots of quirks to check out, and I’m glad you had a good time. 🙂
It was fun! Some of the best adventures are the out of the way places.
Beautiful peaceful scenes Lori. Some might say Way Out. Love the tables set up under the trees. Dining outdoors in Europe on the small side streets is a real treat. Thanks for sharing. Allan
Outdoor dining is indeed a treat especially in a garden center.
What a fun time you must have. I don’t ever get to drive either as Mike doesn’t like the way I drive. I love the water in the tree – that is definitely something I’ve never seen before. I also love the signs. Another great post!
Thank you! It isn’t just the grand things we love about Greece, it is the ordinary that we love also!!
Ugh, that dining experience sounds so relaxing and the food looks delicious. Cool tree, too!
Seems like we really like to eat in Greece! Haven’t had a bad meal yet!
What an adorable-looking place. I’d love to have lunch in that square and just sit around watching the locals.
It was a perfect place to stop!
Lovely, and that water tree is amazing. I chuckled with your description of you in the car – sounds exactly like us, I witter on and I think my husband just about tolerates me hehe 🙂
Lol. That is about right with us!!!
