During our September 2022 trip in Santorini, driving a dune buggy was once again a top choice for us. Having rented a dune buggy during both our 2019 and 2021 trips, we were hooked. Once again we were zooming around the island with silly grins on our faces and having a great time.
During our September 2022 trip in Santorini, driving a dune buggy was once again a top choice for us. Having rented a dune buggy during both our 2019 and 2021 trips, we were hooked. Once again we were zooming around the island with silly grins on our faces and having a great time.
North East Shore
Our first stop this year on our Dune Buggy trek was the North East Shore of Santorini. This is an area that isn’t well known or visited and we really enjoyed the less populated areas. They all had a beauty of their own, some from above and some from the beach. I am not sure of all of the names of these locations as we just drove and turned on to roads or areas that looked as if they went to the sea. We also stopped at a small marina. Who would have expected finding these uncrowded places in Santorini? This fall when we return we plan on being prepared, so we can swim at some of the beaches. We spent the rest of the morning and into the afternoon on this area of the island.

Snack Time
Walking on these beaches of course gave us an appetite so we stopped at a bakery for coffee and sweets. A small piece of baklava, Kataifi, and a Pasteli to go, just in case we needed a bit of nourishment later! All very tasty!

Megalochori Village
After enjoying our snack, Steve drove the dune buggy to the South West side of Santorini to Megalochori Village. We had stopped here on a tour during our first trip to Santorini in 2018 and knew we wanted to return some day to explore this area a bit more thoroughly. We were glad we did. Of course the bell tower is the main attraction here but we also found lovely shops and restaurants. It was a nice little village to wander around and once again, very few people were here.

Here and There
After Megalochori it was back in the Dune Buggy again zooming through the countryside of Santorini and back to our hotel. Just riding along was fun and we took as many backroads as possible to avoid traffic.

Conclusion
Renting a dune buggy in Santorini is one of our favorite ways to discover this island. Driving can be hectic but we take as many off the main roads as we can and there is quite a difference in traffic. We plan on renting a buggy again this fall and have already penciled in some areas we want to visit.

It’s absolutely beautiful! I’d love to visit one day 🙂
It is indeed a beautiful island!
So much fun in such a gorgeous place. I can’t believe you found a place just for yourselves!
We were thrilled to find this area! Thanks for reading!
I’ve never drove nor rode in a dune buggy before, but I can imagine it must be a very convenient way to explore the rocky roads of the Greek islands! Not only is it faster than on foot, but also small enough to squeeze through the narrow streets and alleyways, as opposed to a car! I can tell that Greece has a special place in your heart, given how frequently you visit the country each year!
I enjoy riding in the dune buggy but let my husband drive! It is a great way to get around! Greece does hold a special place in our hearts and we will
Return again in September!
Wow, does tourism really decrease in September, or did you just get lucky? The pictures don’t show any crowds at all!
Tourism around Fira and Oia seem to be in full blow when we are there in September. I just think nobody really goes to these areas of the island. Everyone seems to congregate on the caldera or the organized beaches. Although each year we go to Santorini, sadly it seems like more and more of these off the beaten path areas are being developed.
This is our kind of adventure. So cool!
So much fun!!
