During our 2021 trip to Greece we visited the Akrotiri lighthouse in Santorini, Greece. Located at the southwest tip of the island, this lighthouse is a beauty. This year we again rented a dune buggy and this light house was on our must visit list.

Location
Akrotiri lighthouse is easy to find on the southwestern tip of Santorini, Greece. Less than 20 miles from the main town of Fira, it takes about 25 minutes to drive there.
We parked to the side of the lighthouse and it was just a short walk up. Note that in front of the light house are large rocks and the path is a dirt path, although people were walking all around the area. With this in mind, make sure you step carefully.

The Lighthouse
The Akrotiri lighthouse sets up on a rectangular building and is all white with dark trim. In fact, the lighthouse caretaker lived there years ago. A very impressive site with an equally impressive view as it sits on a cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. Built in 1892 it is still operational and if you are passing it at night you will see a white light shining every 10 seconds from it’s tower.

The views are also spectacular from this area. I have heard this is also a great spot for sunset.

Cave View
Behind the lighthouse and up a hill, you will find a small cave feature in the rocks. There is also a natural window in the cave that you can view the sea from.

To reach this area, walk up the stairs next to the small snack area and also follow the path. Note also that it is very windy here!

Conclusion
As always, we enjoyed our time in Santorini, Greece and the Akrotiri lighthouse was actually a highlight. Not to mention, the views alone are worth stopping for!

Greece has been on my travel list forever. Your posts truly inspire me to get there as soon as I can.
We absolutely love Greece! Planning on returning this fall and visiting Meteora, Corfu and Santorini. We have found the country to be fascinating, the people friendly and the food fantastic!
Love the view through the cave window! Oh, and if you look closely, I think you’ll discover that the dog is a lady dog, not a guy dog. 🙂
You are the second person to enlighten me….and I lived on an Iowa farm for 5 years🤣
I can see why you had to go again.
We can’t seem to get enough of Santorini!
such amazing views. looks like that dog has quite the life!
I agree! I could take a nap there!!!
I was thinking the same thing…
Absolutely stunning location and views Lori. Love the cave view the best. Thanks for sharing. Allan
I love the cave view as well!! Thanks for stopping by! Lori
I don’t recall the Akrotin Lighthouse during my brief visit to Santorini in 2006, but it’s certainly a stunner! And to have it right at the cliffside with such stunning Mediterranean blue views can’t be beat! Glad you had a great time back in Greece, overall!
I didn’t know about it on my first trip either. I think on our first trip we hit the main highlights. There are so many hidden gems on Santorini where you can visit that are in crowded and interesting.
Beautiful! Love the views from the cave!
I love that view also!
