Corfu is a beautiful island in Greece, and has many gorgeous beaches, especially on the NW Coast. We had a wonderful time exploring this area of Corfu during our September 2022 trip. The NW Coast is where we spent most of our time in Corfu so we stayed in Agios Stefanos, NW. We had rented a car previously so we planned on exploring from Agios Stefanos to the Canal d’ Armour near Sidari.
Locations
Logas Beach
Our first stop was Loggas Beach, about 15 minutes from our hotel in Agios Stefanos. Also known as sunset beach, as it is known for stunning sunsets. We arrived shortly before noon and took the short but steep hike down to the beach. The hike includes lots of steps, loose rocks and a few unstable boards so good shoes and careful stepping is a must. Regardless of the poor trail, it is a beautiful beach and so worth going down to if you can. Seeing the beach from above does not do it justice. The beach itself is small and narrow but sandy. We did not swim here but a few people were enjoying the water.
Up on the cliff, the views were also beautiful. Nothing was open while we were here, but from what I understand there is a glass skywalk over the cliff in this area.
Cape Drastis
Cape Drastis is a peninsula. This impressive peninsula is located at the NW corner of Corfu and is one of the most impressive views of the Coast in Greece. We parked our car and walked to see the view from a few different points. Then we hiked down, past the boat rental area to a small beach which I believe is called Graves Cove. Not a sandy beach, but a cove surrounded by rocks. Quite slick in some areas as we saw a couple of people slip and fall. It was a bit of a walk from where we parked. There is also some parking that is closer but was very small and full. Basically if you can find a spot to park at along the road you should take it as it is very busy here.
Canal d’ Amour
Our next stop was just a bit further east along the north coast. We stopped at the Canal d’Amour and surrounding area. Canal d’ Amour is an area with several bays and rock formations. Also known as the Channel of Love. Local legend states if two people in love swim the entire length of the canal together they will stay in love forever. In addition, those who swim to the furthest tip of the canal will find the love of their life. We did not swim here as it was very crowded but we did enjoy walking around and seeing the various views. The clay that forms when water mixes with the wind, salt and rock is said to have healing powers. Scooping up a handful of this clay and then spreading it on your body is supposed to be good for you. We didn’t do this either.
Porto Timoni
On a different day, on our way back from Corfu town, we visited another iconic NW Corfu site, Porto Timoni. We parked in one of the marked parking lots and walked through the cute town to the Sunset View area. Then we decided to hike to the viewpoint only instead of going all the way to the beach. This is because we would be renting a boat the next day to access the beaches from the sea. This double beach can only be reached by foot or by boat. It was a hot day but the hike was not too difficult. The dirt path was narrow in places with brush that could scratch. There were not many people on the path when we were here. It was also very windy here and I really wished I had not worn a dress.
Agios Stefanos Beach
We stayed on the beach in Agios Stefanos NW. This beach was well organized with nice loungers and nice soft sand. It was also a good place to swim as well as relax.
Where We Stayed
We stayed at Delfino Blu Wellness Boutique Hotel and it was top notch in every category. All staff there were totally amazing. Kostas, the owner, is the definition of hospitality and this trickled down to his entire staff! The food was amazinging, the views beyond beautiful, the room comfortable and perfect, the facitlity spotless, the pool amazing and great access to the beach. Delfino Blu gives you the option of full board or ala carte. We decided against the full board so we could go into town and have dinner, although the food and service was so good we ate most of our dinners at the hotel anyway. We may return to Corfu some day just to stay here!
Conclusion
The NW Coast in Corfu, Greece is definitely worth a visit even if just to see the beautiful beaches. This beautiful coast has many beaches, both organized and more remote. The smaller villages are less crowded and quiet. If you are looking for relaxation and adventure this is the perfect area.
