As I mentioned in other posts, Steve’s mom lives in North Fort Myers, Florida and we enjoy visiting her at her home, and while there, we also like to have fun at Fort Myers Beach.
Fort Myers Beach is a really great beach with white sand which is soft to walk on yet packed hard enough to ride on with bikes. The beach is along the Golf of Mexico to the west and intercostal waters on the East. Along the beach you will find hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. When we go in September it does not feel crowded and feels almost small town. We are comfortable to walk around the beach day or night.
What I really noticed about the beach here in Fort Myers is that there are a lot of beach critters around on the shore, maybe it’s that way all over Florida, I’m not sure. Dolphins swim close to the shore and I have seen them swim in groups and also individually.
My favorite part of the beach, other than the beach and water, is the pier. The pier is predominantly for fishing and site seeing. There is a little shop on it. as well I love seeing the sunrise and sunset over it. I also love all the birds that hang out here.
The First year we visited the beach, Steve took me parasailing! I had never experienced this before and absolutely loved it! We could see so far and it just felt like we were floating. When we looked down, at times we could see sting rays, mantas, dolphin and fish in the Gulf.
Another time we were here we hopped on a jet ski tour. It was pretty cool. There was only 1 other couple in the group so the tour guide asked if we wanted to go slow and see lots of dolphins or go fast and see a few dolphins and more of the area. We unanimously agreed to go fast. Wow, did he mean fast. I don’t like to drive a Jet Ski so gladly I rode on the back of Steve’s. I thought for sure I was going to fly off the back.
We followed our guide over to Sanibel Island and then through the Intercoastal waters and over to Lovers Key where we were able to get out and wander around. There had been a storm a few days before we arrived, so this area had tons of broken shells that we had to walk over, they just blanketed the beach.
Bike Riding on the Beach
An activity we really enjoy at Fort Myers Beach is riding bikes! This is the perfect beach for bike riding as the sand is packed well enough so that your wheels are not sinking in too much. It’s a great way to see the beach and tour the town, not to mention getting a bit of exercise!
Sunrises and Sunsets
Sunrises and Sunsets over the golf in Florida are so beautiful and they seem exceptionally beautiful in Fort Myers Beach. So many colors over the water and very serene.
Where We Stayed
We either stay at Steve’s mom’s when we come to Florida or at the Pink Shell Resort. The Pink Shell is located on the beach and has all the amenities you may need. The rooms are comfortable and the staff have always been great. They also have nice beach chairs and umbrellas available.
Of course the main reason we come here is to visit with Steve’s mom and Al. We always have a great time and appreciate being able to see family.
